Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students should be able, at threshold level, to:

1  Choose an appropriate architecture for a web application. 
2  Design and implement server-side programs written using one or more suitable technologies. 
3  Use appropriate features of commonly available technologies to achieve web page effects. 
4  Link a web application to a database. 
5  Reflect and report on the technical and market trends and emerging professional practice in web development issues.
Timetable

Students are expected to do the directed reading specified on the unit website. Weekly online tutorials will take place at which topics will be discussed and problems answered.

Online tutorials will take place on MONDAYS at 2000 UK time starting on Monday 5th October.
Learning activities

Students are expected to read extensively and practice their programming skills in their own time.

Students should not attempt this unit unless they meet the programming prerequisite.

Assessments and their weighting

Exam (60%)

At end of unit.

2 hours duration. Closed book. The exam consists of 6 or more questions. You must answer 4 questions.

Pass mark 40%.

Coursework (40%)

Coursework to be issued during the unit and submitted near the end.

Submission dates Coursework to be submitted by 4pm on Monday 4th January 2010.
Feedback arrangements (staff to students) No formal arrangements. Students can discuss issues that arise at any time with the staff responsible for delivering the unit.

Students will be invited to complete a course evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.
