Operational issues

Equipment checks in Mercantile House

Discussed the provision of phones in each lab in MH. The aim would be to encourage students to phone the helpdesk rather than leave problems unreported. JB expressed the view that a campaign to educate users (staff and students) about the need to report and the location of the nearest phone would be more cost-effective in the short term.

SB reported that all PCs in the MH labs were checked weekly to see that they booted up to the login prompt. The Site Support Team will number each machine to make reporting of faults easier. SB will devise some notices

SB

Library PCs

EK reported that the PC suites in the Frewen Library would be out of action for much of the summer. IS were planning to provide alternative facilities for students in Richmond Building, and possibly Mercantile House.

SB noted that because of the work that will be done on the old computer room, there would be some noise disruption in MH this summer.
