Browsers and plug-ins

Browsers

The following is the list of "adopted" browsers for use by SOC students and staff.

Browser Version(s) Notes
Konqueror latest Linux systems only
Microsoft Internet Explorer latest

Windows systems only

Note that previous version support is next to impossible [Mike Reid]

Mozilla latest incorporating basic web page composer
Mozilla Firefox latest
Netscape latest and 4.7 NO LONGER SUPPORTED?
Safari latest Mac systems only

SOC staff and students should be permitted to specify which of these is their default browser on a particular system.

"Latest" implies the latest version released in plenty of time to be installed for a new academic year. New versions released during the academic year will normally only be adopted for the start of the next academic year.

Note: Opera has been removed from the list above. The licence for the free version explicitly prohibits installing it on multiple machines and it would cost us several hundred pounds to purchase the necessary licence.
